This calendar contains a wide variety of events across the DFW Metroplex for all ages and interests. We hope you will use it as your central hub for planning your stay in DFW if you have travelled to view the Total Solar Eclipse or if you are a resident seeking to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
While the majority of the events are scheduled during the weekend before the Total Eclipse, others are programmed in the months leading up to the April 8, 2024 celestial event. Learn more about the Total Eclipse DFW here.
Event options include learning opportunities to help you and your family understand what happens during the Total Solar Eclipse, how to prepare and most importantly, how to protect your eyes during the lead up to and the aftermath of the period of totality.
Other events include music, arts, sports, celebrations, museums, businesses, food, local entertainment, tours and many others.
Total Eclipse DFW invited groups with events to upload the information to our site as a service to the community. We take no responsibility for the events, organizations/entities or any representations they have made. We provided the calendar only and are not liable for users’ experience with these organizations or events. Big D Eclipse at Dallas College
April 8 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm
TBDJoin us at any Dallas College campus to view the total solar eclipse.
Solar eclipse events are unique cultural and social events impacting human history that date back thousands of years. All seven Dallas College campuses will experience totality for approximately four minutes of complete darkness and a spectacular view of the sun’s glowing corona. This area will not experience this exceedingly rare spectacle again for another 400 years!
As the largest city in the world to encounter this total solar eclipse, local chambers of commerce predict that as many as 1 million people may visit Dallas and surrounding communities to experience the unforgettable phenomenon themselves.
Dallas College is hosting events this upcoming school year for students and the community at large to witness two phenomena in the sky –an exceedingly rare total solar eclipse on April 8.
All seven campuses across Dallas County will host viewing events with special eclipse glasses available for those in attendance to safely view this historic occurrence.
For more information about the upcoming solar eclipse events, contact Heather Appleby, Professor of Astronomy, via email at H.Appleby@DallasCollege.edu or by calling 972-761-6728.
Did you know?
Dallas College has a rich history of hosting astronomy events. Our Richland Campus was home to one of the first planetariums in the area in the 1970s and hosted multiple laser light shows every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for years. As D Magazine described the shows back in 1990, “Now this may sound weird, but these intensely rhythmic, three-dimensional, sight-and-sound fests are experiences you won’t soon forget.” Expect a couple more unforgettable experiences this school year.
